Everything turns. That is not a metaphor — it is physics, biology, psychology, and your bank balance in December. The Wheel of Fortune is the tenth card of the Major Arcana, and it is the cosmic reminder that nothing stays as it is. Not the good and not the bad. The classic image shows a large wheel with various figures on it. At the top sits a sphinx with a sword — the calm center that holds knowledge. On the right side, a figure ascends. On the left, one descends. The four winged figures in the corners — bull, lion, eagle, human — represent the four fixed signs and the four evangelists. They read from books, unmoved by the wheel's turning. The message: there are things that never change, even when everything around them spins.

The serpent on the left side descends — that is Set, the destructive force. On the right side, Anubis ascends — the keeper of knowledge. At the wheel's center are the alchemical symbols for mercury, sulfur, water, and salt — the building blocks of change. And the letters T-A-R-O, which can also be read as R-O-T-A (wheel) or T-O-R-A (law). The wheel turns, but the law behind it remains.

Jupiter and the Element of Fire

The Wheel of Fortune is linked to Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system — the planet of expansion, luck, and great cycles. Jupiter sees the big picture. He zooms out where others only see the moment. Jupiter says: what looks like a catastrophe right now is a chapter, not the whole story. What looks like the greatest stroke of luck right now is also a chapter, not the ending.

Fire as element gives the Wheel its dynamism. This is not gentle, flowing change like water. This is sudden, dramatic, palpable. You lose the job — and three months later find a better one. You break up — and meet someone who turns your entire life around. You win — and a year later realize the win pushed you in a direction you never wanted. Fire change is not subtle. You feel it.

The Jupiter-Fire combination also makes the Wheel the card of opportunities. Jupiter is the planet of luck, and when the Wheel turns, doors open. But Jupiter is also the planet of excess — and sometimes doors open that you should not walk through just because they are open. The Wheel gives you opportunities. What you do with them is up to you.

What the Wheel Is Really Saying

When the Wheel of Fortune appears, it says: something is changing, and you cannot stop it. That sounds threatening, but only if you are clinging to the current state. The sphinx at the top stays calm because she is not hanging FROM the Wheel but sitting ON it. The difference: whoever hangs at the edge gets tossed up and thrown down. Whoever sits at the center stays stable no matter what turns.

In practical questions, the Wheel stands for turning points. Job changes, moves, relationship shifts — the Wheel says: change is coming whether you are ready or not. Your job is not to prevent it but to position yourself. When a door opens, do not ask why. Walk through.

When This Energy Goes Sideways

The Wheel's shadow is fatalism. The belief that everything is predetermined and you can do nothing. "It is just fate" as an excuse never to take responsibility. The Wheel turns, yes — but it does not turn independently of your choices. Your choices ARE part of the mechanism. The fatalist sits on the Wheel and waits. The wise person sits on the Wheel and ACTS when the right position comes.

Another shadow is the refusal to let go. The Wheel keeps turning, but you cling to the position you are in. The job that is over. The relationship that has ended. The phase that has passed. The Wheel says: let go. Not because the old was bad. But because the new cannot come as long as you hold onto the old.

There is also the shadow of the gambling mentality. The Wheel as an excuse to wait for luck rather than act. "My chance will come" — yes, maybe. But chances come to those who are prepared, not to those who sit on the couch and wait for the universe.

The Deeper Truth

The deepest teaching of the Wheel is that change is the only constant. Not luck, not misfortune, not love, not loss — but the fact that all these things come and go in cycles larger than any single life. That sounds impersonal but is actually deeply comforting. Because it means: whatever is happening right now — it passes. The bad passes. But so does the good. And that is exactly why both are so precious.

The Wheel also reminds us that we are part of a larger pattern. Not in the sense of "everything happens for a reason" — sometimes bad luck has no reason. But in the sense of: you are not alone with the cycles. Every person who has ever lived has experienced these highs and lows. The Wheel turns for everyone. The question is only what you do while it turns.
