The Observatory is the tools section of Cosmolytic. It is meant for people who read for others or write about astrology: astrologers, tarot readers, and anyone who needs to look something up quickly and get it right. Everything here is free and works without an account.

Right now there are two tools.

Correspondence Tables

Interactive tables of the traditional correspondences between the planets, the signs, the houses, the elements, the modalities and the 78 tarot cards. Which planet rules which sign, which element a suit belongs to, which decan a minor card sits in. Every entry links to its Atlas page, so if you have forgotten why Mars and The Tower belong together, the explanation is one click away.

Today's Sky

A daily dashboard of the sky as it is computed for the date you pick: where each planet stands and in which sign, the aspects between them, the Moon's phase and sign, which planets are retrograde, and the ingresses, stations and lunations coming up. You can step forward and back one day at a time, which is handy when a client asks about last Tuesday.

Where the numbers come from

All positions are computed with Celestine, an open-source TypeScript astronomy library written by the author of this site. Celestine checks its results against NASA JPL Horizons and NASA's eclipse tables and publishes the differences on its accuracy page, so you can see exactly how far off it is instead of taking our word for it.

No. The tables answer plain questions like which planet goes with which tarot card, and every planet, sign and card links to an Atlas page that explains it.

Yes. In the traditional system each Major Arcana card is tied to a planet, sign or element, each suit to an element, and the numbered minor cards to decans. The Correspondence Tables show all of that in one place, and Today's Sky tells you where the matching planet is right now if you want to bring it into a reading.

For the date you choose: each planet's position and sign, the aspects between planets, the Moon's phase and sign, which planets are retrograde, and upcoming ingresses, stations and lunations. You can move day by day to earlier or later dates.

The traditional Western one used by most tarot and astrology books today, with the Golden Dawn attributions for the tarot cards and decans. Crowley's Thoth deck follows a close but slightly different scheme.

Western tropical astrology, the system most astrologers in Europe and the Americas use and the one our Atlas covers. Sidereal positions for Vedic work are not offered.
