Some things need to burn. Not because they deserve it, not because you deserve it, but because they stood on a foundation that was never meant to carry what you built on top. The Tower is the sixteenth card of the Major Arcana and the most feared card in the deck — even more than Death, because Death at least gives you time to grieve. The Tower gives you no time. It strikes like lightning and leaves you standing in the rubble before you even understand what happened. And then, amid the ashes, you notice: what fell was never going to hold anyway.
The Image on the Card
The classic image shows a tall, narrow tower on a rocky mountain. Lightning strikes the crown of the tower and sets it ablaze. Two figures plunge headfirst from the windows — they fall, they scream, they have no control. Sparks and flames fill the sky. The tower cracks apart. Everything that seemed secure is suddenly chaos.
The crown flying off the tower is the ego. The structure you thought was unshakable — your self-image, your career, your relationship, your certainties — gets hit by the lightning of truth and cannot stand. The tower was never as stable as you thought. It was tall, yes. Impressive, yes. But built on a crack you ignored because you did not want it to be there.
