The World is the twenty-first and final card of the Major Arcana, and it is the card of completion. Not perfection — that is an important distinction. Perfection is an illusion that paralyzes you. Completion is the moment you realize you have everything you need, that the path you walked makes sense, and that you are ready to begin the next cycle.
The Image on the Card
The classic image shows a dancing figure within a large laurel wreath shaped like a zero or an oval. In the four corners the same four figures as the Wheel of Fortune — bull, lion, eagle, human — the four fixed signs, the four elements, the four evangelists. The figure at the center holds two wands, similar to the Magician, and dances — light, graceful, free.
The laurel wreath is the symbol of victory, completion, and the fulfilled cycle. It forms a closed oval, almost like an egg — beginning and end in one. The two red ribbons holding the wreath together recall the infinity sign above the Magician's head. What began there as potential has become reality here.
The dancing figure has something no other card in the deck has: effortlessness. No struggle, no strain, no wrestling. Just movement, rhythm, and the quiet certainty that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. The four figures in the corners watch, just as with the Wheel of Fortune — but where there they observed the wheel's turning, here they celebrate the completion. The journey was long.
